Gosainkunda Lake is a famous sacred lake for both the devotees of Buddhism and Hinduism. It is also known for its wonderful scenic beauty. Encircled by high mountains on the north as well as east sides, the lake cannot stand offering an enthralling sight. Apart from its religious importance, the Lake is the space of challenges to the trekkers. Each year, in the month of August, especially during the festival of Janai Purnima, many tourists, as well as pilgrimages, come to Gosaikunda Lake to take a holy bath. The huge rock at the mid of the lake is thought to be the remnants of a Shiva temple. In order to get inner solace, Lord Shiva is supposed to have drunk the entire water of the lake.
While crossing a small ridge through passing some huts in Lauribinayak La, we can have our first sights of the holy lakes. Apart from the three main lakes such as Bhairabkunda, Gosainkunda, and Saraswatikunda, there are more than a dozen lakes in the Basin. This trek offers outstanding outlooks of snow-capped mountains, striking valley and prevues of mysterious 108 sacred lakes with ethnocultural diversity.
The journey crisscrosses from side to side fine-looking low sub-tropical as well as alpine forests within the Langtang National Park, including the close-glimpse of the most beautiful endangered spice Red Panda. The trace of Tibetan Culture in Tamang culture, the Himalayan panorama of Langtang Lirung, the uppermost peak in the region, the holy monasteries like Kaynjin Gompa, and the holy highland Lake Gosainkunda etc. are the highlights of the Gosainkunda Trek. The hike starts off in a lavish sub-tropical forest, taking you via rhododendron forests to the high scenic views. Returning over the Gosaikunda Pass is more challenging. Profuse wildlife, intense forest teaming with colorful wildflowers and wild species, makes more interesting in the Gosainkunda for the nature lovers.
