It is not only a place you have visited but an unforgettable moment lingering in your heart and senses. Chitwan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the warm plains of the south of Nepal, is not only the first national park of Nepal but also one of the finest Asian wildlife safari spots.
The atmosphere changes dramatically when you are at the entrance of Chitwan National Park. The city noises are completely drowned out and replaced by birds singing, leaves rustling, and various other sounds of nature. Everywhere, you may see elephant grasses dancing in the wind while the Rapti River is quietly meandering near the thick forest of sal trees. Here, you will find the rare one-horned rhinoceros, royal Bengal tiger, wild elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles and over 500 bird species.
The thrill of a jeep safari in the wilderness is that it is both exciting and full of surprise. The joy of spotting a rhino or a herd of deer or tiger’s footprints is something you can feel at every step. River trips by canoe provide a tranquil experience and you can easily spot a few crocodiles sunbathing and some brightly colored kingfishers diving into the water.
Besides providing a glimpse into the life of wild animals, Chitwan is also a place to experience the culture of the indigenous Tharu community. They will not only warmly welcome you but also show their traditional dances and prepare local delicacies for you to taste that have been made in the jungle for ages.
Chitwan National Park is a real paradise for those who are willing to go beyond the mountains. It offers a mix of nature, wildlife safari, culture, and relaxation. The memories you make here will be so raw, genuine, and vivid that you will hardly forget them. In addition to your trekking tour in Nepal, you may make a visit to the park for a jungle getaway or simply let the two coincide.
Best Time For Wildlife Tour In Chitwan
The best time for a wildlife tour in Chitwan is from October to March. This is cool and dry weather, and the temps are very suitable for us to have outdoor activities like jungle safaris, canoe rides, and jungle walks. It is also the time when the visibility is really good. As the dry season drives the animals to water areas, they are more collectable, making it easier to spot them. What’s more, the trees are not so thick, and the low temperatures also provide a better hunting ground.
From October to February, the good observation of wild animals is very common. It is possible to see rhinos, tigers, elephants, and plenty of birds during the dry spell. The dry season is the period of time when the migratory birds also come to roost. This, then, is the right moment to look for birds.
Even though April to June still gives us the possibility of seeing wild animals, the weather is really hot. In these three months, the temperature is often greater than 35°C (95°F). The ideal time to go on a safari is early mornings and evenings.
Always remember, the rainy season (July to September) should be avoided. Because of the abundant rain, the trails are full of mud, and the visibility of the animals is reduced to a great extent.
On the whole, October to March are the months when the weather is comfortable and people can have better chances of encountering wildlife in Chitwan.
