Getting Tourist Visa For Nepal


In most countries visa getting procedure is very tough and time consuming but getting a visa to enter Nepal is one of the easiest things. Only a few steps need to be followed, various categories of visa are available based on the purpose of your visit.

You can apply for Tourist Visa in Nepal in two ways:

  1. First way is applying at the Nepalese Diplomatic Missions/Embassy in your home country. If you obtain visa this way, you must visit Nepal within 6 months from visa issuance date.

OR,

  1. Second way is to get the “Visa on Arrival” at the Immigration Office Of Nepal under TIA Department of Immigration. This is the visa you collect after your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport. The whole process is very quick, simple and you don’t need to undergo thorough procedures.

Although if you plan your visit to Nepal in the peak seasons, you might have to wait for few minutes in the queue to get the visa. Otherwise during the off-season, you can get it within a few minutes.

Presently, every tourist gets a Tourist Visa on arrival. Later, it is changed to another category of visa depending on the purpose of your visit.

Getting Visa on Arrival involves several steps:

  1. Filling the arrival card

  2. Filling Online “Tourist Visa” form

Online service is also available by visiting the official website of the Department of Immigration. by submitting , you will get a barcode submission receipt which you will need to print and submit at the airport after your arrival. Your submission will remain valid for the first 15 days after your form submission. If you fail to arrive within the 15 days, you have to fill the form again at the airport.

Alternatively, you can use the Kiosk machines at the airport to fill the form on your arrival.

  1. Once you complete the Visa form, you need to Pay the Visa charge at the bank (which is inside the Airport premise) based on your visa requirement. Visa costs vary depending on the duration of your stay in Nepal.

The cost differences of Visa on Arrival is as follows:

  • 15 days- 25 USD
  • 30 days- 40 USD
  • 90 days- 100 USD

  2. Present your online form, payment receipt, and passport. Now, you can hold the Tourist Visa for Nepal in your hands.

Though, there are some instances where you don’t have to pay for Visa in Nepal. Following are the categories of people who can get free visa:

  • Children under 10 years of age
  • SAARC nationals (except Afghanistan) for their first 30 days of arrival.
  • Free visa is issued to the holders of NRN card issued by MoFA/ Nepalese diplomatic missions abroad
  • Chinese Nationals
  • Officials from China, Brazil, Russia, and Thailand (because of the bilateral visa waiver ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌agreement)

What if you want to stay in Nepal for a few more days than you initially planned? Well, you will have to extend your visa. The procedure is as easy as getting a visa for the first time. Visit the Department of Immigration if you want to extend your visa. You may even extend a tourist visa at the Immigration Office, Pokhara if you happen to be there.

However, if you want to extend other types of visas then you have to seek the advice of the Department of Immigration, ‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌Kathmandu.
