Yala Peak Climbing provides majestic views of the Himalayan, including several snowy mountains of Nepal and Tibet like Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, Dorje, Naya Kanga Peak, Shishapangma, etc. It is one of Nepal’s easier peaks to climb and is most suitable for those who wish to stand on a Himalayan summit but have a limitation in the available time. The easiest and most wonderful way of trekking Yala Peak is through the Langtang region. There are other two or three routes available. The easiest way is the trial starting from Syabru Besi after taking the 9-hour drive from Kathmandu.
After hiking for five days, the trip will pass through the beautiful Langtang Valley to Kyanjin Gompa at 3,800 km which is a very interesting place in itself. The entire trip will provide you with numerous opportunities to visit Buddhist monasteries and will provide a perfect blend of Tibetan Buddhist culture and historical phenomena. Trekking consists of passing through a dense forest, traditional settlements and reaching the base camp of Yala Peak will provide stunning views of various beautiful mountains. Yala peak climbing is not so technical so prior climbing experience is not required. However, extensive outdoor experience and a reasonably good level of fitness are necessary for easy climbing and thorough enjoyment of the adventure.

Day 6
Acclimatization Day at Kyanjin Gompa
- Altitude: 3,870m
- Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and dinner
- Accommodation: Tea house
Today is your acclimatization day, so you will be staying at Kyanjin Gompa to give your body time to get used to the high altitude. This is really essential in order to feel strong and healthy while climbing Yala Peak! But you won’t be cooped up inside all day; instead, you can take optional short hikes to nearby viewpoints. One of the most popular ones is the hike to Kyanjin Ri which stands at 4,773 meters altitude. The views from the summit are fantastic as you can see the Langtang Valley and the snow-covered mountains around you.
The second one is by far the best option if you want to go for a longer hike, to Tserko Ri, which is approximately at 4,984 meters altitude. This viewpoint offers a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of peaks, glaciers, and wide-open valleys.
Once you have finished your hike, you will come back to Kyanjin Gompa for your rest. Here you can see the old monastery, try to visit the cheese factory, or just sit down with a cup of hot beverage and soak in the quiet mountain village atmosphere.

Trek From Kyanjin Gompa to Yala Base Camp
- Altitude: 4,600m
- Distance: 9 Km
- Trek Duration: 5-6 hours

The trail from here going towards the base camp of Yala is largely along the rocky glacier trail. Some of the best sights from the camping site include the four very distinct giant men Ganchenpo, Naya Kang, Tserko Ri, and Yala Peak. Our climbing instructors will show us the ropes – literally – since after basecamp there will be a technique session on climbing gear use (rope, ice pick, harness, crampons) which will be conducted by the team of guides.
Day 8
Summit Yala Peak and Back to Kyanjin Gompa
- Altitude: 5,520m
- Climbing Distance: 10 Km
- Climbing Duration: 8-9 hours
- Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and dinner
- Accommodation: Tea house
The day of the summit of Yala Peak is not only the most thrilling moment but also the greatest test of the entire trek!
Your summit ascent will start very early (approximately 2:00–3:00 AM) so that you can be on the summit before the sun comes up. Equipped with headlamps, you will proceed on a path that is strewn with rocks and snow, and you will be using basic climbing equipment such as crampons, harness, helmet, and ropes. The entire time your skilled climbing team will guide you.
The mountaineering is technically very simple but the combination of high altitude (5500 m), cold weather, and steep slope results in a very strenuous physical effort for the day.
At the top of Yala Peak, you will have no less than stunning views of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, Ganchenpo, and even Shishapangma (8,027m) in Tibet — one of the 14 highest mountains in the world!
Once you have absorbed the spectacular scenery and taken some photos at the summit, you will make a careful descent to Base Camp where you will rest for some time, and then you will head further down to Kyanjin Gompa for enjoying a hot meal and relaxing after the day’s adventure.
Day 9
Trek down from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel
- Altitude: 2,470m
- Distance: 18 Km
- Trek Duration: 7-8 hours
- Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and dinner
- Accommodation: Tea house
After an incredible hike at Yala Peak and a well-deserved rest in Kyanjin Gompa, today marks the start of your descent through the Langtang Valley.
The path will lead you back to the places you visited Langtang Village, Ghora Tabela, and then to the beautiful forests near Lama Hotel. While you are coming down, you will realize easier breathing and the change of landscape from the snow-capped mountains to the green forests.
Since most of this day you are walking downhill, it can be a more leisurely trek but, on the other hand, it can still be demanding for your knees. Don’t rush, savor the ever-changing scenery, and revel in your feats!
Day 10
Trek down from Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi
- Altitude: 1,460m
- Trek Distance: 11 Km
- Trek Duration: 5-6 hours
- Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and dinner
- Accommodation: Tea house
This is your last day hiking as you return to Syabrubesi, the place where you began your trek. The path descends generally through thick woodlands full of oak, bamboo, and rhododendron, though there will be a few times when you have to go up.
Besides encountering tiny villages, you will also witness your last views of the Langtang River before reaching Syabrubesi where you will have a chance to unwind and rejoice in the successful accomplishment of your Langtang and Yala Peak journey.
Day 11
Drive from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu
- Altitude: 1,350m
- Drive distance: 120 Km
- Drive duration: 7-8 Km
- Meal: Breakfast and Lunch
- Accommodation: Three star standard Hotel
After breakfast in Syabrubesi, it is time to start your journey back to Kathmandu. The drive is really nice and you will see lots of twisty roads in the mountains, terraces on the hills, rivers and lovely villages.
The road may be a bit rough and bumpy here and there but the landscapes that keep changing and you seeing the rural way of life in Nepal are what make you feel the ride is still good. When you get to Kathmandu, then first thing you do is go and check in to your hotel and then you have free time for the rest of the day either to relax or go out and see the city.
