The Mohare Danda Trek represents a fantastic hidden gem of Nepal that offers a peaceful and environmentally-friendly alternative to the hustle and bustle of the Annapurna region’s trails. Nestled in between the awe-inspiring Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, this trekking route is particularly suited for adventurers who want to enjoy spectacular Himalayan vista, immerse themselves in local traditions, and avoid the tourist crowds.

While the trails at Poon Hill are densely packed with tourists, Mohare Danda promises a tranquil and unspoiled environment inviting visitors to enjoy beautiful nature, thick rhododendron forests, and nice local villagers. The crown jewel of the trek is Mohare Danda (3,300 meters), a fantastic lookout spot with breathtaking sunrise and sunset views of the snowy peaks including Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Nilgiri.

Besides gorgeous scenery, this trek epitomizes the community-based tourism approach in Nepal. The community-run teahouses along the trek not only make sure that tourism directly supports rural development, education, and environment-friendly activities but also help in preserving the essence of tourism at the local level. Getting on this trek means actively participating in responsible tourism and at the same time having an authentic Himalayan escape.

Why Mohare Danda Trek is Unique?

Mohare Danda Trek is a very unique trek for the reason that it is centered around the concept of eco-tourism, offers cultural experiences and is an off-the-path type of adventure. So it will be a good fit for people who want to steer clear of overrun trekking routes while still admiring the magnificent mountain views.

Trekkers will have the chance to amble through indigenous villages such as Nangi and Tikot where the lifestyle of the Magar and Gurung ethnic groups can be observed first hand. The walk marries nature, culture, and comfort so well that it can even be enjoyed by beginners, families, and elderly people.

Moreover, the trek is feature-rich with:

  •  Peaceful and less commercialized paths
  •  Biodiversity-rich and densely wooded areas
  •  Community lodges and homestays for accommodation
  •  Traditional Nepali warmness and homegrown food
  •  Amazing photography ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌spots

Nature & Cultural Experience

The Mohare Danda Trek offers a fantastic opportunity to witness nature in its many forms, ranging from subtropical forests to high alpine ridges. In fact, during spring the path is beautifully lined with the blooming of rhododendrons, the national flower of Nepal, which altogether makes the trekking environment really colorful and lively.

It is the culturally significant part of the trek that provides the most memorable moments. It is primarily because of the level of immersion one gets with the real lives of local communities. Besides taking a tour of traditional farming and local lifestyle, cultural exchanges can be done too. The locale of such places as Nangi is also widely recognized for community-led schemes like schools and ecolodges.

Accommodation & Food

Where you stay on the trail? Local community lodges, which offer the basics with a touch of comfort. Locals run these lodges, so it means your spending helps the community directly.

Some highlights:

  • Deliciously cooked organic food (Dal Bhat, noodles, soups)
  • Friendly hosts and made-to-order service
  • Clean facilities and serene atmosphere for ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌sleeping

Frequently Asked Questions

Mohare Danda is a gorgeous hilltop situated in the Annapurna region of Nepal. Positioned at a height of around 3,300 meters, it is part of the Myagdi district. It is a place where one can enjoy sweeping panoramic views of the mountain ranges of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri, as well as the peaks of Machhapuchhre (also known as Fishtail), Nilgiri, and Hiunchuli.

Generally speaking, the Mohare Danda Trek is regarded as an easy to moderate trek. It is, therefore, a great choice for people who are new to trekking or for those who want to do the activities with their family members, including elderly members. The trek consists of short and gentle slopes that go up and down through forests and villages. There are no sudden steep climbs and exposure to high altitudes are not part of the risks of this trek.

As a matter of fact, you don’t need to have gone trekking before. Nevertheless, it is advisable that you should have some fitness level. Besides your regular work or daily walks you should start doing some light exercises or short hikes to get accustomed to the physical demands of the trip.

The ideal time is:

  • Spring (March to May) – the rhododendron trees will be flowering and the mountain views will be very clear.
  • Autumn (September to November) – the weather will be steady and visibility is excellent.

Winter (December–February) is a possibility for those who also like snow, whereas monsoon (June–August) will bring a lot of greenery but also rain.

There are two types of accommodation community lodges and teahouses

  • The latter are generally quite simple but quite comfortable at the same time along with offering basic rooms with twin beds. At the lower elevations, the amenities are considerably better while at the higher ones they tend to be most basic but still clean and hospitable.

Here are some examples of Nepali dishes you might sample during your trek:

  • Dal Bhat (standard Nepali plate)
  • Noodles, pasta, fried rice
  • Soups, pancakes, eggs, and bread

All meals are made fresh and are quite hygienic. You can get special dietary needs catered if you give a heads up in advance.

Since the highest elevation is about 3,300 meters, the chances of getting altitude sickness are quite minimal. Still, one should always keep in mind good acclimatization, rehydration, and a consistent pace.

One must have the following permits:

  • Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)
  • TIMS Card (Trekkers’ Information Management System)

Nepal Royal Tourism assists you in getting all these permits.

This trek definitely fits the bill for a family outing that can include kids and even the elderly members of the family as there is less strenuous effort and also shorter walking hours.

Being one of the least crowded spots, Mohare Danda provides a quiet and serene trekking experience, unlike Poon Hill which is bustling with tourists. It mainly revolves around eco-tourism and community-based tourism, so visitors will be directly helping the local people.

You are going to see magnificent views of Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri range, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail),

Nilgiri and Hiunchuli and also watching the sunrise and sunset at Mohare Danda will be a real highlight of your trip.

Wi-Fi is available in some lodges (may be slow and chargeable) and Electricity is available for charging devices, often for an additional fee. To be on the safe side, bring a power ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌bank.

Although it is possible to trek without any help, we strongly advise hiring a licensed guide and porter. They will not only ensure your safety and help with directions but also make your trek more enjoyable. Nepal Royal Tourism offers professional and amiable team members.

Some of the most important items are:

  • Good trekking shoes
  • Layered clothes for warmth
  • Cape for rain
  • Small bag
  • Water vessel and personal things

A comprehensive list of items needed for trekking will be shared at the time of booking.

Normally the trek starts after a beautiful drive from Pokhara to Galeshwor or the neighboring villages. Nepal Royal Tourism will organize your transportation as a part of your trip.

Indeed, taking travel insurance is a good idea. Make sure it includes trekking activities up to the altitudes of 3,500 meters, emergency evacuation, and medical costs.

Of course. At Nepal Royal Tourism, we provide customized trekking experiences. Besides adapting the itinerary, you can also change the travel duration, type of accommodation, or incorporate cultural experiences.

  • Guides with experience and proper licensing
  • Personalized service and ability to change itineraries
  • Very serious about safety and sustainable tourism
  • Helping local people by promotion of eco-tourism

Besides making sure your trek is safe and comfortable, we want it to be something you will cherish ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌forever.
