Chulu Far East Peak Climbing is a serious and rewarding climbing journey in the Annapurna region, made for trekkers who want to move beyond normal trekking and experience a real Himalayan summit.

Chulu Far East Peak rises to around 6,059 metres above the Manang valley and belongs to the wider Chulu mountain group.

It is not the highest trekking peak in Nepal, but it gives a strong climbing experience with altitude, snow, ice, rocky sections, rope work, and a beautiful summit view across the Annapurna range.

This trip is ideal for travellers who want an Annapurna region adventure with both trekking and climbing in one route.

The journey follows the classic approach trail through Dharapani, Chame, Pisang, and Ngawal before moving higher toward Chulu Far East Base Camp and High Camp.

After the summit, the route continues through Manang, Yak Kharka, Thorong Phedi, Thorong La Pass, Muktinath, Jomsom, Pokhara, and Kathmandu.

This makes the package feel complete because it does not only climb the peak and return the same way.

It gives you the Chulu Far East summit, the Manang valley, the famous Thorong La crossing, and the Mustang side of the Annapurna region.

The journey begins in Kathmandu with arrival, hotel transfer, and a short briefing. Kathmandu gives you time to rest after your international flight and understand the plan before the mountain section begins.

Since this is a peak climbing, the briefing is more important than it would be on a normal trek.

You need to understand the route, climbing days, altitude gain, equipment, permits, weather condition, guide instruction, accommodation style, and safety plan.

From Kathmandu, the route drives west and then north toward Dharapani. This road journey follows highways, river valleys, hill towns, farmland, and rougher mountain road sections as it enters the Annapurna region.

Dharapani is one of the main access points to the Annapurna route and marks the beginning of the walking journey.

From there, the trail gradually climbs through forest, river valleys, settlements, waterfalls, cliffs, and mountain villages toward Chame.

The trek from Dharapani to Chame gives the first real feeling of the Annapurna region.

The air becomes cooler, the vegetation changes, and the mountain views become stronger as the trail follows the Marsyangdi valley.

Chame is the district headquarters of Manang and an important stop before the trail moves higher toward Pisang.

The route from Chame to Pisang is one of the most scenic approach sections, with pine forest, river bends, cliffs, bridges, and increasing views of Annapurna II and the surrounding peaks.

From Pisang, the route takes the higher trail toward Ngawal. This section is important because it gives better views and better acclimatization before entering the climbing zone.

Ngawal is an old village with stone houses, prayer flags, chortens, dry slopes, and wide views of the upper Manang valley.

Spending an acclimatization day here is useful because the route soon moves above 4,000 metres and then toward Base Camp and High Camp.

The approach to Chulu Far East begins after Ngawal. The trail moves away from the normal village route and heads toward Yak Kharka Camp and then Chulu Far East Base Camp.

The landscape becomes more remote, drier, and more alpine. Vegetation becomes thinner, the air feels lighter, and the route starts to feel like a climbing expedition rather than a normal trek.

Base Camp sits in a high and open mountain setting below the climbing route, where tents, camp routines, gear checking, and climbing preparation become part of the experience.

From Base Camp, the route climbs to High Camp. This day is shorter in distance but demanding because of the altitude. High Camp is colder, more exposed, and closer to the summit route.

The climbing guide checks equipment, explains the summit plan, and prepares the team for an early start.

Depending on the season and conditions, the route can involve snow, ice, rocky sections, fixed rope support, crampons, harness, helmet, and ice axe use. This is where the trip clearly becomes a peak climbing journey.

Summit day is the main challenge of Chulu Far East Peak Climbing. The climb usually begins very early, often before sunrise, because mountain weather and wind can become stronger later in the day.

The summit push requires patience, steady breathing, careful movement, and trust in the climbing guide. Chulu Far East is not a casual trekking viewpoint.

It is a real Himalayan climbing objective above 6,000 metres. The climb may involve snow slopes, ridgeline sections, rope support, and slow movement in thin air.

Reaching the summit of Chulu Far East Peak is a powerful reward. On a clear day, the views can include Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak, Chulu range, Manaslu, Dhaulagiri, and the wide Manang landscape.

The view feels different from a normal trekking viewpoint because you reach it after a real climb.

After the summit, the descent must be done carefully. Many climbing accidents happen while descending, so the guide’s instruction remains important even after the summit has been reached.

After the climbing section, the route returns toward Ngawal and then continues to Manang. This part of the trip gives time to recover from the summit while staying inside the high Annapurna landscape.

Manang is one of the most important villages in the region, with lodges, bakeries, monasteries, old houses, and beautiful views of Gangapurna and the surrounding peaks.

After the tougher climbing days, Manang feels more comfortable and settled.

From Manang, the route continues toward Yak Kharka and Thorong Phedi. These days prepare the body for the next major challenge, Thorong La Pass.

Even though the main climb is already complete, the journey still remains serious because the route stays above 4,000 metres and the weather can be cold and windy. Thorong Phedi is the final stop before crossing Thorong La Pass.

Thorong La Pass sits at around 5,416 metres and connects the Manang side with the Mustang side of the Annapurna region.

The pass crossing starts early and requires slow, steady walking. It is not a technical climb like the Chulu summit, but the altitude, cold, wind, and long descent make it one of the hardest trekking days of the trip.

Crossing Thorong La after climbing Chulu Far East gives the journey another major achievement.

After Thorong La, the route descends to Muktinath on the Mustang side. The landscape changes quickly from high alpine terrain to dry, open, and windy scenery.

Muktinath is known for its temple area, 108 water spouts, eternal flame, and peaceful mountain setting. From there, the journey continues by road to Jomsom through the Kali Gandaki valley.

The short flight from Jomsom to Pokhara gives a scenic ending to the mountain section, and Pokhara offers a comfortable rest after the climb and trek.

Chulu Far East Peak Climbing is suitable for fit trekkers with previous high altitude trekking experience and a serious attitude toward climbing.

Previous climbing experience is helpful, but strong fitness, proper acclimatization, good gear, and willingness to learn basic climbing techniques are just as important.

This trip involves altitude above 6,000 metres, tented camps, cold nights, summit pressure, and changing mountain weather, so it should not be treated like a normal trekking holiday.

The best seasons for Chulu Far East Peak Climbing are spring and autumn. Spring usually brings warmer climbing conditions and better snow conditions, while autumn often offers clear skies and sharp mountain views.

Winter is colder and more demanding, while monsoon is less suitable because of rain, cloud, unstable trails, and poor visibility.

The summit attempt always depends on route condition, weather, safety, and the climbing guide’s decision.

Chulu Far East Peak Climbing is one of the best Annapurna region packages for travellers who want trekking, climbing, high altitude adventure, and a complete mountain route in one journey.

It combines the Marsyangdi valley, Pisang, Ngawal, Chulu Far East Base Camp, High Camp, summit, Manang, Thorong La Pass, Muktinath, Jomsom, Pokhara, and Kathmandu.

It is demanding, scenic, and deeply rewarding for anyone ready to take on a real Himalayan climbing challenge.

  • Travel Duration: 7 to 8 hours
  • Travel Distance:  225 km
  • Meal: Breakfast and Lunch
  • Accommodation: Teahouse in Dharapani

After breakfast, you leave Kathmandu and begin the long drive toward Dharapani, the starting point of the trekking route. The road follows busy highway sections at first, then moves through river valleys, farmland, hill towns, and mountain roads. You drive through Besisahar and continue along the Marsyangdi valley, where the road becomes rougher and more scenic. This day is mainly about reaching the trailhead, but it also gives the first look at the changing landscape of central Nepal. Dharapani is a mountain village on the Annapurna route and a comfortable first overnight stop.

Day 3

Trek from Dharapani to Chame

  • Altitude: 2,170 m
  • Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hours
  • Trek Distance: 15 to 16 km
  • Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Accommodation: Teahouse in Chame

Today’s trek begins from Dharapani and follows the Marsyangdi valley toward Chame. You may walk through places including, Bagarchhap, Danaque, Timang, and Koto depending on the trail and road condition used by the guide. The air becomes cooler as the route gains altitude, and mountain views start becoming stronger. Chame is the district headquarters of Manang. It is also an important overnight stop before the trail continues toward the Pisang area.

Day 4

Trek from Chame to Pisang

  • Altitude: 3,300 m
  • Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hours
  • Trek Distance: Around 14 to 16 km
  • Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Accommodation: Teahouse in Pisang

Today the trail continues through the upper Marsyangdi valley, where the scenery becomes more dramatic. The route passes forest, cliffs, river bends, suspension bridges, and narrow valley sections before opening toward the Pisang area. You may pass places such as Bhratang and Dhukur Pokhari along the way. The mountain views become stronger, especially around Annapurna II, Pisang Peak, and the Chulu range. Pisang is an important village before the route climbs toward Ngawal and the higher Manang side.

Day 5

Trek from Pisang to Ngawal

  • Altitude: 3,680 m
  • Trek Duration: 4 to 5 hours
  • Trek Distance: Around 10 to 12 km
  • Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Accommodation: Teahouse in Ngawal

From Pisang, the route climbs toward Ngawal on the higher trail. This section is more scenic than the lower valley route and gives wide views of Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Gangapurna, Pisang Peak, Chulu peaks, and the upper Manang valley. You pass mani walls, dry slopes, old houses, prayer flags, and open mountain scenery along the way. Ngawal is a beautiful traditional village with a strong Himalayan atmosphere. Sleeping here supports gradual acclimatization before moving toward the Chulu Far East climbing zone.

Day 6

Acclimatization Day in Ngawal

  • Altitude: 3,680 m
  • Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Accommodation: Teahouse in Ngawal

This day is kept for acclimatization before the route moves into higher climbing territory. Ngawal is a useful place to rest because it sits high enough to help the body adjust while still offering a comfortable village setting. You can take a short hike around the village, walk to nearby viewpoints, explore old houses and chortens, or simply rest at the teahouse. The views of Annapurna, Chulu range, and the Manang valley are excellent when the weather is clear. This day helps reduce altitude risk before Yak Kharka Camp, Base Camp, and High Camp.

Day 7

Trek from Ngawal to Chulu Far East Yak Kharka Camp

  • Altitude: 4,050 m
  • Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hours
  • Trek Distance: Around 9 to 11 km
  • Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Accommodation: Tented Camp at Yak Kharka Camp

After breakfast, the route leaves Ngawal and moves toward the Chulu Far East climbing approach. The trail becomes quieter and more remote as you move away from the main village route. The landscape is dry, open, and alpine, with fewer settlements and wider views across the upper Manang region. Yak Kharka Camp is used as a high camp approach stop before moving to Chulu Far East Base Camp. Since the altitude is now above 4,000 metres, walking slowly, drinking water, and keeping the pace steady are important.

Day 8

Trek from Yak Kharka Camp to Chulu Far East Base Camp

  • Altitude: 5,140 m
  • Trek Duration: 4 to 5 hours
  • Trek Distance: 5 to 7 km
  • Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Accommodation: Tented Camp at Chulu Far East Base Camp

Today the route climbs higher toward Chulu Far East Base Camp. The trail is shorter in distance, but the altitude makes the day serious. The scenery becomes more rugged, with alpine slopes, rocky terrain, and open mountain surroundings. Base Camp is usually set in a suitable area below the climbing route, depending on weather and mountain conditions. After reaching camp, the team prepares tents, checks climbing equipment, and reviews the next stage of the climb. The night at Base Camp feels colder and more exposed than the village sections.

Day 9

Climb from Base Camp to High Camp

  • Altitude: 5,600 m
  • Trek Duration: 3 to 4 hours
  • Trek Distance: 3 to 4 km
  • Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Accommodation: Tented Camp at Chulu Far East High Camp

Today you climb from Base Camp to High Camp. The distance is not long, but the altitude and terrain make the movement slow and demanding. Depending on snow and route conditions, the climb may involve rocky ground, moraine like sections, steeper slopes, and basic rope management. High Camp is colder and more exposed, but it places the team in the right position for the summit attempt. After reaching camp, the climbing guide checks equipment, explains the summit plan, and prepares the group for an early morning start.

Day 10

Summit Chulu Far East Peak and Return to Ngawal

  • Altitude: 6,059 m at Chulu Far East Summit and 3,680 m at Ngawal
  • Trek Duration: 8 to 10 hours
  • Trek Distance: 10 to 12 km
  • Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Accommodation: Teahouse in Ngawal

This is the main climbing day of the trip. The summit push starts very early from High Camp because weather and wind can become stronger later in the day. The route may include snow, ice, rocky sections, and rope support depending on conditions. You climb slowly with the guidance of the climbing leader and use proper equipment where required. From the summit, the views of Annapurna, Manaslu, Dhaulagiri, Chulu range, Gangapurna, and the upper Manang valley can be excellent. After the summit, you descend carefully and continue back to Ngawal for the night.

Day 11

Trek from Ngawal to Manang

  • Altitude: 3,590 m
  • Trek Duration: 4 to 5 hours
  • Trek Distance: 8 to 10 km
  • Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Accommodation: Teahouse in Manang

After completing the climbing section, the route continues from Ngawal toward Manang. The walk feels easier compared to summit day, but the body may still be tired after the climb and long descent. The trail moves through dry slopes, old settlements, chortens, prayer flags, and wide views of the upper Manang valley. Manang is one of the most important villages in the Annapurna region, with lodges, bakeries, monasteries, and beautiful views of Gangapurna and surrounding peaks. This is a good place to recover after the Chulu Far East climb.

Day 12

Trek from Manang to Yak Kharka

  • Altitude: 4,050 m
  • Trek Duration: 4 to 5 hours
  • Trek Distance: 9 to 10 km
  • Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Accommodation: Teahouse in Yak Kharka

The trail leaves Manang and gradually climbs toward Yak Kharka. This section moves back above 4,000 metres and prepares the route for Thorong La Pass. The landscape becomes drier, colder, and more open, with fewer trees and wide views across the high valley. You may pass small settlements, grazing areas, mani walls, and mountain ridges along the way. Since the body has already climbed above 6,000 metres, the walking may feel manageable, but steady pacing is still important. Yak Kharka is a common overnight stop before Thorong Phedi.

Day 13

Trek from Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi

  • Altitude: 4,450 m
  • Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hours
  • Trek Distance: 8 to 10 km
  • Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Accommodation: Teahouse in Thorong Phedi

Today you trek from Yak Kharka toward Thorong Phedi, the base settlement before crossing Thorong La Pass. The route passes through Ledar and follows high alpine terrain with open slopes, river sections, and some landslide prone areas. The distance is not very long, but the altitude makes the day serious. You should walk slowly, drink enough water, and avoid unnecessary effort. Thorong Phedi is a basic but important overnight stop where trekkers rest, eat early, pack warm layers, and prepare for the early morning pass crossing.

Day 14

Trek from Thorong Phedi to Muktinath via Thorong La Pass

  • Altitude: 5,416 m at Thorong La Pass and around 3,710 m at Muktinath
  • Trek Duration: 7 to 8 hours
  • Trek Distance: Around 15 to 16 km
  • Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Accommodation: Teahouse in Muktinath

This is another major high altitude day after the Chulu Far East summit. You start early from Thorong Phedi and climb slowly toward Thorong La Pass at around 5,416 metres. The trail is not technical, but the altitude, cold morning, wind, and long walking hours make it demanding. After reaching the pass, you descend toward Muktinath on the Mustang side. The landscape changes quickly from high alpine terrain to dry Mustang scenery. Muktinath is a respected mountain settlement known for its temple area, 108 water spouts, eternal flame, and peaceful setting.

Day 15

Drive from Muktinath to Jomsom

  • Altitude: 2,743 m
  • Drive Duration: 2 to 3 hours
  • Drive Distance: Around 20 to 25 km
  • Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
  • Accommodation: Teahouse in Jomsom

The morning begins with a relaxed drive through the upper Kali Gandaki Valley after several demanding days in the high mountains. With the summit behind you and the technical section of the expedition completed, today’s journey feels completely different. The road descends through the windswept Mustang landscape, passing traditional villages, colourful prayer walls, and dramatic cliffs carved by centuries of Himalayan weather. As you approach Jomsom, the valley widens beneath the towering Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri ranges, creating one final taste of the unique trans-Himalayan scenery. The lower elevation also allows the body to recover more comfortably after spending multiple nights above 4,000 metres and successfully climbing Chulu Far East Peak.

Day 16

Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara

  • Altitude: 822 m
  • Flight Duration: Around 20 to 25 minutes
  • Flight Distance: 70 km
  • Meal: Breakfast
  • Accommodation: Standard Three Star Hotel in Pokhara

Weather permitting, you board one of Nepal’s most scenic mountain flights from Jomsom to Pokhara early in the morning. The aircraft follows the Kali Gandaki Gorge, offering remarkable aerial views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna South, and Machhapuchhre before leaving the rugged Himalayan landscape behind. Within minutes, snow-covered peaks give way to green hills and finally the peaceful surroundings of Pokhara. After checking into the hotel, the remainder of the day is free to relax by Phewa Lake, enjoy a comfortable meal, or simply celebrate the successful completion of both the Chulu Far East expedition and one of Nepal’s finest sections of the Annapurna region.

Day 17

Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu

  • Altitude: 1,350 m
  • Drive Duration: 6 to 7 hours
  • Drive Distance: Around 200 km
  • Meal: Breakfast and Lunch
  • Accommodation: Standard Three Star Hotel in Kathmandu

Leaving Pokhara after breakfast, the drive returns to Kathmandu along the Prithvi Highway beside the Trishuli River. The changing scenery, from quiet lakeside surroundings to green hills, rivers, farming villages, and busy roadside towns, offers a gentle transition back to city life. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, there is time to explore Thamel, enjoy a local cuisine one last time at night, or simply reflect on the achievement of climbing a Himalayan trekking peak above six thousand metres. Completing Chulu Far East is more than reaching a summit; it is the reward for weeks of steady trekking, careful acclimatization, technical effort, and determination in one of Nepal’s most spectacular mountain regions.

Day 18

Final Departure from Kathmandu

  • Meal: Breakfast

Today marks the end of your Chulu Far East Peak Climbing adventure. According to your international flight schedule, our representative will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure. As you leave Nepal, you take home memories of climbing above 6,000 metres, standing on the summit of Chulu Far East, crossing the legendary Thorong La Pass, exploring the high valleys of Manang and Mustang, and experiencing one of the most rewarding combinations of trekking and alpine climbing in the Himalayas. Previous climbing experience is helpful and recommended, but strong fitness and previous high altitude trekking experience are also important. The climbing guide will provide basic instruction where required.

The summit day is the hardest climbing day because it starts early and includes high altitude, cold weather, snow or ice sections, and a long descent. Thorong La Pass is also a demanding day.

You may need climbing boots, crampons, ice axe, harness, helmet, ascender, descender, carabiners, warm gloves, and proper high altitude clothing. Some gear can be rented in Kathmandu if arranged in advance.

The trip requires a Chulu Far East Peak climbing permit, Annapurna Conservation Area Permit, and applicable trekking documents as per latest regulations.
