The Gorakshep to Kathmandu Helicopter Flight is the fastest way to leave the upper Everest region after completing the Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar section of a trek.
From Gorakshep at approximately 5,164 m, the helicopter takes you out of the high Khumbu and toward Kathmandu, replacing several days of descending on foot with a single scenic aerial journey.
The experience begins in one of the highest settlements regularly used by trekkers in the Everest region.
From Gorakshep, the helicopter descends through the rugged Khumbu landscape, passing over deep valleys, glacial terrain, Sherpa settlements and mountain ridges before reaching lower elevations.
Depending on the operating route and visibility, travelers may see the landscapes around Everest Base Camp, Khumbu Glacier, Pumori, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and other Himalayan peaks.

Because Gorakshep sits at such a high altitude, the helicopter cannot simply operate like a normal low-altitude airport transfer.

Safety and High Altitude Operations
Gorakshep sits at approximately 5,164 m, making this very different from a normal helicopter transfer from a low altitude airport.
Aircraft performance is affected by elevation, temperature, passenger weight, baggage, fuel requirements and weather conditions.
Because of these limitations, a helicopter may not always be able to carry every passenger directly from Gorakshep to Kathmandu in one movement.
Depending on the aircraft and passenger load, some travelers may need to be shuttled to Pheriche before the helicopter continues toward Kathmandu.
A stop at Lukla may also be required for refuelling or operational reasons. Such stops are not guaranteed sightseeing stops and depend on the aircraft and conditions on the day.
