Rara Lake Trek ~ Itinerary
Day 1
Welcome to Nepal airport and transfer to hotel
- Altitude: 1,350 m
- Drive duration: 20 minutes
Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, a representative of Nepal Royal Tourism Holiday Pvt Ltd will be there to welcome you. They will assist you with your luggage and make sure you have a hassle-free transfer to your Kathmandu hotel. This day should be used for you to rest and recover from your flight, get used to the different time zone and environment.
If your schedule allows you to, step outside and check out the energetic Thamel district, the area with lively streets full of shops, restaurants, and cultural sites. It is a place with a dynamic atmosphere that is also one of the favorite spots for tourists.
Day 2
Kathmandu to Nepalgunj flight and transfer to hotel

Post your meal in the morning; a plane will take you from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, the western part of the Terai region in Nepal. It is a 1-hour long flight and offers marvelous and very diverse landscape scenery of the entire Nepal. When you get to Nepalgunj, a friendly hand will see that you get to your hotel, from where you can just relax and get used to the lowland climate.
After, take a trip down to Nepalgunj’s flourishing local marketplaces, which are marked by their cultural diversity. The city is inhabited by many different ethnic groups and the market is full of everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to handicrafts. Dive into the local way of life before the trek into remote areas. Sleep in the hotel.
Day 3
Fly from Nepalgunj to Jumla

After you have done having your early morning meal, take your lungs for a puff and get on a short flight heading towards Jumla. This is your trekking point. This flight is 20-30 minutes long and you will be so mesmerized that you will forget to close the window with great acts of nature stars. As you arrive in Jumla, you will find yourself surrounded by a world of beautiful natural sceneries such as terraced fields and lush forests. You are at 2,370 meters altitude.
Jumla is famous for the areas in which its apples grow and its traditional houses. Go for a walk around the area’s cultural heritage that creates its identity some point of time. That is what you will get to see on this day. Getting used to the same altitude is very important and preparation for the trek takes nothing less than a whole day. You can get your luggage and blankets on the teahouse.
Day 4
Trek from Jumla to Danphe Langa

The first leg of the journey is from Jumla to Danphe Langa. It takes us an average of 6-7 hours to trek this trail. The path goes up a series of stunning landscapes, offering views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. You are going to go through blooming rhododendron as well as pine forests that are so attractive during the seasons. Villages are going to be passing by you where you will see the way of living of local people of Karnali region. They are known for their warm hospitality and willingness to show the culture and traditions. Besides, you will be able to spend your night in a tea house or tented camp in the place called Danphe Langa.
Day 5
Trek from Danphe Langa to Chautha

- Trek distance: 15 km
- Trek duration: 6-7 Hours

The hike from Danphe Langa to Chautha may take around 6-7 hours. A path with ups and downs will give you a varied trekking experience. Besides that, you will be crossing several streams, making the whole thing even more adventurous. The sound of flowing water along with the sight of waterfalls decorates the nice view of the trek.
Besides that, you will get to enjoy the sight of different kinds of plants, including many kinds of wildflowers. This part of the trek will be a wonderful occasion to fall in love with the nature of the area. When you get near Chautha, the scenery comes out to the open and you can see the terraces of the fields and the villages. You will be staying overnight either in a teahouse or tented camp in Chautha.
Day 6
Trek from Chautha to Dhotu

- Trek duration: 5-6 Hours

The route from Chautha to Dhotu meanders through dense forests and terraced fields. Green landscape and traditional farming areas showcase the region’s natural beauty and rural life. The peaceful surroundings paired with the songs of the birds add to the charm of the trek.
While you are going down, the way gets sight of a village called Dhotu. Dhotu is particularly famous for its traditional houses and it is a great place to stay with hospitable locals who make visitors feel at home. The friendly smiles of the local people together with their stories about their culture and traditions add to the charm of the village.
You will need around 5-6 hours for the whole trek, so you shall have a lot of time to enjoy the nature and the treasure of the trek. Once you get to Dhotu, you can choose to have tea at one of the teahouses or stay in a tented camp for the night. The charm of the village and the cozy atmosphere of your accommodations combine to make the perfect end to the day’s trekking.
Day 7
Trek from Dhotu to Rara Lake

Begin the hike from Dhotu going to the highlight of the trek – Rara Lake. The route makes a slow climb allowing you to admire the incredible surroundings as you near the lake. Day 8
Rest at Rara Lake and exploration of Rara Lake

Rest and slow down at Rara Lake while taking a whole day to explore the area at your own hazard. You can start by walking up to the viewpoints where you will be able to see in one glance the whole lake area and the landscape around it. It is a great place for taking pictures and by standing there you can also admire the beauty around you.
If you are planning to spend the afternoon near a body of water, you can get a boat that will take you over the calm waters of Rara Lake and the distanced view is really great and the serene environment can be felt fully. Day 9
Trek from Rara Lake to Ghorasingha

Begin your return journey from Rara Lake to Ghorasingha. The path gently climbs revealing beautiful views of the lake from different angles. Upon leaving Rara Lake, the trail leads you through varied landscapes from dense forests, open meadows, and hills to show you the different charm of the nature. The trek duration is approximately 6-7 hours and it is a big possibility to see local fauna like deer and different bird species.
This less frequented trail to Ghorasingha presents a great opportunity to savor the peacefulness and untouched nature of the area. Although there are instances where the ascent is quite steep, the stunning views and quiet environment certainly compensate for the effort. You can lodge in tented camps or a teahouse in Ghorasingha for a night.
Day 10
Trek from Ghorasingha to Sinja

- Trek duration: 4-5 Hours

Leaving Ghorasingha, the route heads to Sinja through the paths of the Malla Kingdom which is characterised by ruins and heaps of history. There will be many ups and downs in the trail which will add fun to the trek. You’ll come across old settlement remains and visualize the historical importance of the path.
Sinja is well known for its cultural and historical heritage. You will be able to see the remains of ancient inscriptions and architectural styles which are totally different from each other once you get there. Since the cultural and linguistic foundation of this area is essentially Nepali, the Sinja valley is also a prime spot where one can genuinely experience the historical side of Nepal. A teahouse or a tented camp in Sinja is suitable for accommodation and one can spend the night there.
Day 11
Trek from Sinja to Jaljala

- Trek distance: 16 km
- Trek duration: 6-7 Hours

The trek through the forests and alpine pastures between Sinja and Jaljala will allow you to maximize the enjoyment of different views around the hills and valleys that are perfect for photography or nature exploration. The duration for this stretch of a journey is 6-7 hours, though it is challenging.
Higher up, you get to the point where the massifs change, and each time you make a step, the next panoramic view becomes available to you. Jaljala is synonymous with picture-perfect surroundings and the feeling of satisfaction on achieving this stage after a long trek makes it all the more enjoyable. You can spend your night in the Jaljala teahouse or tented camp where you will also have a chance to experience the serenity which will enormously help you in getting ready for the final stage of your trek.
Day 12
Trek from Jaljala to Jumla

- Trek duration: 5-6 Hours

Come back to Jumla and finish your trekking circuit. The trail goes down slowly and takes you through different kinds of landscapes from green forests to wide-open fields. This part of the trek gives a wonderful chance for you to contemplate the trek and the beautiful landscape you have seen. The length of the trek is about 5-6 hours which makes it a good time to have a mix of peaceful walking trails and at the same time spectacular views.
Once in Jumla, you will get a hint of the end of your trekking adventure just by seeing the familiar sights of the town. Arrange your accommodation at a teahouse or a lodge in Jumla. You will be able to rest and have a comfortable night after the extensive trekking. The last night in Jumla is a time for you to celebrate the achievement of your trekking and get ready for the return trip to Kathmandu.
Day 13
Flight from Jumla to Nepalgunj to Kathmandu

Fly from Jumla to Nepalgunj to begin the journey back to Kathmandu. This flight gives you one last chance to see the isolated beauty of the Karnali region. You will be transferred to your connecting flight to Kathmandu at Nepalgunj, making sure that your change from the wilderness of the trek to the busy city is a smooth one.
The moment you are back in Kathmandu, you can either rest or visit the city on your own. However, it would be nice to have a farewell dinner with your trekking group to mark the good ending of the Rara Lake Trek. While having a meal in the lively capital, you can exchange stories and the best parts of your trek. Rest overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu, enjoying the comforts of city accommodations.
